No User-Serviceable Parts Inside (Thursday, October 25th, 2007) |
Guess how many screws you have to remove in order to replace the hard drive in an iBook G4. Forty-eight. Seven are Torx T8, the rest are Phillips. Three are underneath rubber feet that break when you remove them, so when you put everything back together, you have to buy new feet (yes, that's Apple's official procedure). Unfortunately the intermittent problem with my old hard drive stopped being intermittent yesterday, and I've been unable to access any of the data at all. I'm hoping I'll be able to coax it back to life at some point (it's in a USB enclosure now), because my most recent backup isn't very recent. Hard drives suck. |
