As Bad As It Sounds (Thursday, May 7th, 2009) |
Tropicana is pushing a new product called Trop50. It's supposed to be orange juice but with half the sugar and half the calories. Essentially, they take orange juice, then add water to dilute it, then add some other ingredients to add some flavor so it doesn't simply taste like watered down orange juice. It sounds awful, but it was on sale, so I decided to try it. Imagine a “diet” version of Sunny Delight, made with an artificial sweetener instead of sugar. Now imagine mixing that with watered down orange juice. I'll definitely stay away from this stuff in the future. Unfortunately Tropicana changed their packaging recently, and I find the new labels unfamiliar and harder to distinguish, so I have to be extra careful not to grab the wrong carton by mistake. I know, it clearly says what it is right there on the label, but for some reasoon I see right past the clear labeling and get confused. I prefer Florida's Natural anyway. |
